A Golf Slice Swing Is Controllable
What's a golf slice swing, I can hear you ask. You have probably twigged that a slice is cause by your swing, after all what else could it be, but is there such a thing as a golf slice swing? Of course there is!
A Golf Slice is a Spin Shot!
What causes a golf slice? It's caused by hitting the ball with the club face not straight, but angled out to the right. You may think that this makes you hit the ball to the right, but that's not what a slice is. It's not caused by hitting to the right (though this will be to the left if you are left- handed) but by putting sidespin on the ball when you hit it. This sidespin is what causes the golf ball to curve to the right.
If it's a severe curve it's called a slice, but if it's a slight curve the pros call it a fade. I'm sure more than a few pros have sliced the ball then claimed they tried a fade but just slightly overcooked it! It wouldn't surprise me!
A Golf Slice Swing can be Controlled
So, a golf slice swing is one that causes a slice. A golf slice swing is one that swings right to left, slightly across the ball. This naturally opens the club face, puts clockwise spin on the golf ball and slices it out right. Good golf players can use a golf slice swing to fade the ball. They point their body to left of target while hitting the ball straight. This will open up the club face as it strikes the ball. They also aim left of target.
What this does is to keep the swing straight, but the club face hits the ball at an angle. This puts the clockwise swing on the ball and if fades round towards the target. It's a controlled slice imparted by what could be termed a golf slice swing!
Most Golfers Slice the Ball
In fact, a golf slice swing is the most common cause of a regular slice. It is said that about 80% of golfers swing from right to left since that is the natural way for a swing to move unless the golfer has been professionally trained, and regularly undergoes golf-specific flexibility and strength training.
The way these golfers overcome a golf slice is to aim left of target. Not the best way to cure a slice, which is one reason why most golfers never make it to the top, either as professional or amateur. Would you like more detailed golf slice instructions?
