How to Cure A Golf Slice
It's not always easy to cure a golf slice. Oh, I know it sounds easy: hit the ball straight and keep the club face square to the golf ball, but try it in practice. Some golfers even give the game up because the can't cure their golf slice. So don't do these guys a disservice and say it's easy.
If you ask any pro how to cure a golf slice the first advice he will give you is to strengthen your grip to make sure you are hitting the ball with your hands in the right place. The trouble with a slice is that it can be caused either by swinging straight with an open club face, having the grip right but swinging right to left or a combination of both.Since you don't know which of these you are doing, you can only cure a golf slice by a process of elimination. If a simple grip change doesn't sort it you will have to get to work on your stance and your swing. If you are swinging from right to left across the ball you will need to assess the aspects of the swing that could cause that.
An example is a poor stance. Your feet should be in line with the direction you want the ball to travel. At point of contact your chest should be also pointing to the target. If your chest rotates past the target the ball before the club face reaches the ball, you will swing to the left and the face will open up, imparting spin and therefore slice on the golf ball. Same with your shoulder. You must keep your leading shoulder down over the ball. If you lift it just before or at contact, you will again swing to the left. There are several reasons for your swing going from right to left and to cure a golf slice you must identify them all and tackle them one by one.
Don't tackle any more than one at a time or you will get confused. One at a time, slowly and steadily, and you will get there. It's necessary, to cure a golf slice properly and permanently, to identify exactly what was causing it. You must know what you did to resolve the problem rather than make a load of sweeping changes, any one of which may have been effective. Otherwise, should the problem recur you will not know the specific remedy you used last time.
It sounds pretty easy to cure a golf slice - but this is where I started off and where I shall finish.
